Dr Martens Shoes Original 11849001

Dr Martens Shoes Original 11849001

I have been wearing Doc Martens for 25 years, all sorts of different designs; I currently have 11 pair in various incarnations and ages.

There is a lot of concern because most Docs are now made in China instead of England. The past pair of 8053s I bought was about 10 years ago and last year they finally gave out after a LOT of wear and abuse, though up until they literally fell apart they were still the most comfortable shoes I had. They were also 8053s made in England.

This pair is made in China, but is every bit as comfortable as my long-lasting pair right out of the box. I wore them for a day, and they felt broken in after just an hour.

The bottom tread is a bit different from the Old England to the New China, but it's a trivial difference. The wear is what matters.

I have hopes for the durability of these new 8053s, and though time will tell it certainly seems off to a great start.

  2. Back in the late 70's early 80's, well before Doc Martin on PBS, there was punk rock and fashion. Many a proper punk preferred the style, comfort and protection afforded by their well worn and much loved Dr. Martens' boots. I'm happy to say the brand lives on and the quality and comfort out of the box is still there too. These shoes are breaking in nicely (wish they came in half sizes...) and I have the feeling they will last for years with daily use. Tough shoes. Comfort. Style. Not for everybody-- but neither was anarchy!

  3. I have a couple pairs of four eye Dr. Martens, so I was pretty confident when I ordered my 8053 5 eye shoes. I am very pleased with the quality, as I am with the quality of my 4 eyes. They are very comfortable, and they keep my feet very happy while I'm at work. Given how long my 4 eyes (also made in China) have lasted, these should be good for at least a couple of years.

One caution for narrow feet. The 8053 5 eyes fit a little looser than my 4 eyes. For most people, this wouldn't be a problem, but I have very narrow feet. However, I pulled out the insoles and slipped in a pair of inexpensive Powerstep Pinnacle orthotics, and the shoes fit perfectly.

  4. I recently purchased a second pair of Dr. Martens unisex 5 eye padded collar. My 1st pair lasted about 5 years and were comfortable from day 1. My new pair seems to be of equal quality. I was concerned reading that Dr. Martens are now made in China and that the new tread was inferior. While the tread design is different, I checked my old shoes and they too were made in China. Apart from the new tread design (which makes no difference whatsoever) I did notice that the size 11 shoe is larger than the old size 11 and probably more of a true US size than before.

This was the best casual shoe I've ever owned and still is.

  5. I am a public school teacher so I need to be running around on my feet all day on some pretty rough floors. I have been buying Docs for four years now and I am found them to be extremely comfortable and well put together. I have never had a pair fall apart or appear damaged in any way other than natural creases in the leather over time. I am glad that I went with the five eyed pair this time because they are even more secure on my feet than the three eyed pairs I am use to. I have been wearing this pair at least twice a week for 9 months now and I they still feel great. Most dress shoes are so thin on the bottom that I can't wear them for more than a few hours. With Doc's Airwair bottoms I can go all day and that is why I would recommend these shoes to anyone who wants to look classy while feeling great.

  6. I searched all over town looking for Dr Martens that would fit me. No one seemed to have any.... I thought I'd check out Amazon.com and I found what I was looking for! I am planning on buying another pair in the near future!

  7. Bought these for my husband since they are his favorite brand of everyday shoes. He absolutely loves them, but we ordered the brown and yellow laces to replace the black ones. All in all....great shoes
